Will insurance cover a GLP-1 in Washington?

Apple Health does not cover GLP-1s for weight loss on its own. It covers them for specific medical diagnoses. That is the first thing to settle before booking, because it decides whether you are paying a program fee plus the full cost of the drug.

A Washington court reopened the question for other plans

On May 4, 2026 the Washington Court of Appeals revived a proposed class action from state employees who said their benefit plan wrongly excluded GLP-1s for obesity. The court held that refusing to cover a treatment only because it addresses obesity can raise a claim under state antidiscrimination law. The case was sent back for further proceedings rather than decided, and it concerns a state employee plan rather than Apple Health, so it does not change what any plan covers today.

Medicare now has a $50 route, and it started this month

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge began on July 1, 2026 and runs through December 31, 2027. Eligible Part D enrollees pay a flat $50 per month for Wegovy, the Zepbound KwikPen, or Foundayo, and that amount does not rise as the dose goes up. Eligibility runs through the prescriber, who attests that the patient meets the clinical criteria. One catch worth asking about: these copays do not count toward the Part D deductible or the annual out-of-pocket limit.
