Choosing a GLP-1 clinic

How to choose a GLP-1 weight loss clinic

Almost any clinic can write a prescription for semaglutide or tirzepatide, so the hard part is not finding one but knowing who is behind it. Every GLP-1 weight loss clinic listed here names the clinician responsible for prescribing, and where a state publishes its licensing record we matched that clinician against it. No clinic can pay for that check.

What is left to ask comes down to three things: who performs the evaluation, what the quoted price covers once the dose goes up, and whether the prescription is for an FDA-approved product or a compounded preparation.

How every clinic here is checked

  • 508 of 521 GLP-1 clinics name the clinician behind the care, and no clinic can pay to be marked verified.
  • 229 have a clinician matched to a state licensing registry. The rest are matched to the federal NPPES record.
  • 267 offer telehealth and 254 see patients in person only.
  • Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved products, which changes both the price and your recourse.

Care models

What is a medical weight loss clinic?

It is a clinic that treats obesity as a medical condition rather than a diet problem, which means a licensed clinician evaluates you, prescribes when it is appropriate, and adjusts the dose over the following months. Any program built on coaching or meal plans alone cannot prescribe at all. Weight loss clinics come in four kinds, and they differ in what they charge, how thoroughly they screen, and whether the clinician responsible for the prescription is actually in the building.

Physician-led obesity medicine

A physician with obesity medicine or endocrinology training directs care, which matters most if you have diabetes, a cardiac history, or a previous GLP-1 course you could not tolerate. Visit costs are typically higher than a program built around a single monthly fee.

Med spa and aesthetics practices

Weight care is offered alongside cosmetic services. Prescribing is lawful wherever a licensed clinician authorizes it, though that clinician may be a remote medical director rather than the person present at the visit. Confirm who that clinician is, and who you reach once treatment has started.

Online and telehealth providers

Evaluation takes place by video and medication is shipped. Access is usually faster and cash pricing lower. Laboratory work is arranged locally and no physical examination is performed, so eligibility depends on the clinical picture.

Hybrid clinics

The first visit is in person and follow-up happens by video, which gets a physical baseline on record without costing a morning every time the dose changes. 267 of the 521 clinics we checked work this way at least some of the time.

By medication

Looking for a specific medication?

Most clinics prescribe more than one medication, and which one you start on is a clinical decision rather than a menu choice. If a particular medication is what brought you here, these pages cover what getting it involves, what moves the price up or down, and which clinics name it on their own site.

Six questions worth asking on the first call

These are the questions where answers differ most between clinics, and one that handles them plainly on the phone is usually the one to book with.

  • Who does the evaluation and signs the prescription, and what are their credentials?
  • Does that price include the medication, or only the visits?
  • Is the product FDA-approved or compounded, and which pharmacy fills it?
  • What does month four cost, and what happens if treatment stops?
  • Who is reachable if a dose causes a reaction after hours?
  • Are labs required before starting, and is that cost included?
